J. Scott Ballenger, a partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office and member of the Supreme Court and Appellate and Antitrust and Competition practices, has been selected as one of Law 360’s Rising Stars of 2011. In selecting Ballenger, Law 360 noted, “While there's no surefire way to ensure the U.S. Supreme Court will take on your case, the odds go up if your petition for certiorari is crafted by Latham & Watkins LLP's J. Scott Ballenger...” Law 360 went on to note that “despite being the youngest partner in Latham's appellate practice, Ballenger has left his mark on a slew of high-stakes, high-profile cases.” In his relatively short career, Scott Ballenger has handled an impressive array of matters for clients in bet-the-company and other critical business cases. He has represented some of the nation’s leading businesses and his work has been lauded by the Wall Street Journal and Financial Times.
Ballenger, whose recent accomplishments are noted in additional detail in the Law 360 article, is part of a talented Supreme Court and Appellate practice that is chaired by former U.S. Solicitor General Greg Garre and includes longtime Supreme Court practitioner Maureen Mahoney and experienced appellate litigator Rick Bress, among more than 50 others. Clients depend on Latham & Watkins when the stakes are high and the legal questions are untested. Attorneys in Latham's Supreme Court and Appellate Practice Group thrive on difficult, groundbreaking cases - mastering the details of complex litigation while remaining focused on a winning strategy.
